Have you considered Prolotherapy or Viscosupplements?
Nu Feet Podiatry is the only Podiatry practice on the Sunshine Coast to offer these, so make your appointment with our Podiatrist now!
Prolotherapy is a regenerative injection therapy technique used for many different types of musculoskeletal pain including arthritis, tendonitis, partially torn tendons, ligaments & cartilage, heel spurs & plantar fasciitis, neuromas, foot & ankle pain/injuries, knee injuries, deep aching pain, sports injuries, iliotibial band pain, shin splints & tarsal tunnel syndrome.
Prolotherapy causes a localized inflammation in the weak or injured areas which then increases the blood supply and flow of nutrients, and stimulates the tissue to repair itself – an innate ability that the body has. The injections are not particularly painful, but you may experience a burning sensation and some swelling and stiffness, however this is perfectly normal and is a sign of the body taking action on the area.
Usually a short course of 4 to 6 treatments 3 to 4 weeks apart is required, but this depends on the individual and one’s healing ability. Typically 2 out of 3 people who receive prolotherapy feel better and proponents claim a 85-95% success rate. When you consider the low risk, and the potential for great benefits, prolotherapy may be worth considering.
Viscosupplements is a solution injected into joint spaces which can decrease pain and stiffness, and improve symptoms associated with osteoarthritis. You will gradually experience a reduction in pain and stiffness lasting for several months, and when the effects start to wear off another course can be administered.
Viscosupplements can be injected 2 to 3 times over 6 months, or once weekly for a total of 1 to 3 injections. Multiple joints can be treated at the same time.
